My grandchildren deserve the wisdom of their grandmother
A bit unconventional, I never thought they would find themselves in church
I feared the rote memorization and cult atmosphere I had experienced as a girl
Instead, I have tried to teach them to think independently
To know they are always sufficient for life’s challenges
That the higher power of life can be there for them anywhere and anytime
Showing them inclusion and awareness of diversity was important to me
Teaching them the importance of education and adapting
Watching them learn why we are different matters more than trying to change each other
I taught them self-love and to sit with their feelings before acting
Told them their intuition is their inner compass, perhaps from a higher power
The importance of listening to self
From me they learned no fear-mongering superstitions
No pressure to conform to expectations of others
I hope they always remember to be strong and loving
They possess power from within
