Sometimes sitting quietly is the hardest thing you can do. When the mind swirls at a hyper pace and your breathing is shallow, trying to to just be still feels like it is impossible. However, if you can learn to calm yourself, life will be less challenging and time and creation will flow easier for your body, mind and soul.
Take a slow approach by finding a comfortable place for your body to settle into. Perhaps you would enjoy being outside with a gentle breeze to settle your soul? Or, you can sit on your sofa, bed or enjoy a nice soak in a tub. The important thing is to find a peaceful quite place as a good place to start. Once you find a quiet spot, settle into a physically comfortable position for your body. After you settle in, recognize and honor your entire body with a slow mental body scan of your head, eyes, nose, mouth and chin. Gently rotate your head from side to side, then up and down. Close your eyes and allow your face to relax. Lift your shoulders up with a deep breath and then down as you exhale. Do these shoulder lifts with great consciousness to be respectful and aware of each and every inhale and exhale.
As you gain recognition and respect for your body practice feeling the breath you take enter into your body and settle into each and every spot. Try placing your hand on your stomach and allowing a big inhale to move your hand gently as air fills your lungs. Hold the breath for a second or two and gently exhale through the nose. Try to exhale a little slower than you exhale. Think of nothing but the breath you are taking in, holding and exhaling. Do this over and over as you allow your breath and body to merge.
After a bit of practice, this become a very relaxing body/mind experience and settles both into a more relaxed place.
